Brownstown-Bowmansville-Brownstown (T) Jun 10
On the smallest roads we could find, with the biggest bicycles we could get, four of us pedalled together to Ranck's Family Restaurant in Bowmansville . . . and it was windy, the kind of winds that you meet on the prairies, incessant and imposing, just the type of conditions that allow tandems to shine. What a pleasure to ride with Bill & Nancy on their perfect Santana Sovereign complete with one of the world's last working Cateye Solar Cyclo Computers. This bike was purchased from Rodney Moseman at his "Bicycle World" in 1985. That bike shop is missed by many of us. Eileen & I rode our 2000 Co-Motion Robusta named "People Eater," one of the fist ones of this type that was produced. The restaurant was really hopping when we arrived. Luckily, we were served by our favorite waitress and we had plenty of time for good conversation and a fine breakfast. There were two other stops where we continued on yakking-Harting's Bakery (not to mention the Lepp cookies and pound cake) and at the intersection of Division Highway and Wanner Roads where we patiently waited for a pretty long time to cross the highway. Back at the finish, we paused to sample our fresh baked goods before scurrying home to "start those lawn mowers."-Cycling Swami-P.S. Cycling Tip: Carrying a pound cake in your center rear cycling jersey provides a certain comfort in the small of your back and can be used to fill your stomach at just the right moment!! Riders: Neil & Eileen Crone (leaders), Bill & Nancy Ambler

Strausstown (A) Jun 11
It seemed that no matter which way you went, you had a headwind. Mark disappeared off the front and was never seen again. The rest of the group rode together and finished the ride with a 16.5 average despite the strong headwind. Sunday Siesta (B) Jun 11
41 mi on Sunday Siesta course; 65º to start/71º by the end of the ride; overcast and windy. A bit of a headwind for most of the ride; no matter which way we turned there seemed to be a pretty strong headwind at least for the first 23 miles. Had a short reprieve, but for some reason the tailwind just didn't seem to be as strong or help as much as the headwind hurt us. Go Figure! Drafting didn't seem to help either-I think they were circular winds or something. But despite this wind, we were able to maintain a pace slightly faster (that everyone agreed to) than the advertised 14 mph, finishing at 15.6 mph. Mark's GPS on the course also put us at 40.2 mile total distance. Thank you, Mark. Riders" Tom Barron (leader), Tim Good, Bill Ambler, Mark Ward, Jim Moore, and Michelle Bingham.

New Witness Tree Trek (C) Jun 11
The ride was to be a "C" pace. However, it broke out into three groups-"A," "B," "C." The "C" group was only 5 riders. One was new to the area, new to the club and new to riding. So, we of the "C" group mentored the new rider. That is what the club is about-helping one another. Riders: Lloyd Melhorn (leader), Ray Landis, Rose Ward, John Mullineaux, John Cardos, Jeff DeLong, Pearl DeLong, Tom Wiley, Dave Kessler, Dave Harris, Bill Mullineaux, Lou Gray, Eleanor Nuffort, Richard Nuffort, Helen Weber, Joe Auchey, Randy Haluck, Shelley Catina, Ed Fearnow, Bobbi Fearnow, and non-LBC member Matt Dishart.

Covered Bridge ¼ Metric (Tandem) Jun 17
Only one other pair of tandem riders showed for today's 1/4 Covered Bridge Metric Century and they were the Moseman's. My daughter Erin, who is 8, was participating in her 2nd official LBC ride as my stoker. Although she was not really in the mood for a bike ride this morning, she pulled out her slump quickly once she saw all the other cyclists...and another tandem. Although my stoker is small, she is mighty and was constantly wanting to be in front and if there was a challenge from behind, I could feel her pedal strokes getting harder and faster. It was tough keeping up with the Moseman's on the descents as their skinny road tires offered a lot less resistance than our big, fat balloon tires did. Even though we were in their draft on the descents, we had to pedal to keep up. Erin would be behind me screaming PEDAL, PEDAL!! Too funny. Craig Shreiner and David Flowers joined us on their single seaters. We were happy to have their company. The food at the club picnic was great, as usual, and it was nice to sit and chat with fellow riders without having a bicycle underneath us or gasping for air. Riders: Curtis Palmer (leader), Erin Palmer, Rodney Moseman, and Verna Moseman.

Warwick Tour (A) Jun 18
Twelve riders showed up for this hot Father's Day ride. Fast riders, no winds, a flat route and good pace lines made this a fast ride. We all started together and we all finished together at a 20 mph pace. No flats no spills and only one car pulled out in front of us ( I think he must have misjudged our speed). Riders: Damon Schlott (leader), Mike Lutz, Curtis Palmer, Ken Lessons, Mark Buckwalter, Warren Buch, Tom Hunt, Don Kulp, Barry Lavender, Scott Wagner, and non-LBC members: Bart Torre, Bill Stevens and George Metzler.

Manor Meander (B) Jun 18
Only one rider came out on the very hot and humid afternoon ride. Ride leader suffered a puncture, and fell behind after not being able to bring the tire pressure back up to full pressure with the hand pump. Riders: Brian Heiland (leader), and Jim Moore.

Masonic Home Tour (B) Jun 18
Great day. A little hot. After 2 miles, I lead from the rear along with Pearl, Steve S. and John M. We took at 7 mile shortcut to avoid the hills and got caught by the lead group. We held our speed to 14.5 mph. A good time was had by all. Remember to drink more on hot days. Riders: Jeff DeLong (leader), Pearl DeLong (sweep), John Mullineaux, John Donati, Diane Lausman, Steve Gerber, Tim Good, Steve Mazeski, Rich Wagner, Jerry Wisnosky, Craig Shreiner, Jim Yeingst, Lou Gray, Steve Schmohl, Randy Haluck, Tim Ihrig, Michelle Bingham, Dave Kessler and non-LBC members Ben Gray and Ted Will.

Chickies Creek Long (C) Jun 18
Happy Father's Day! Nice weather, temp's in the 80's and sunny with one dozen riders. We had a father and son join us for Father's Day. May they have many happy years riding together. No flats, or lost riders, but one mishap, The Artie Johnson or I forgot to unclip! Only a little loss of skin. Riders: Judy Flowers (leader), Scott Jones (sweep) and son Matt, David Flowers, Harry Campbell, Helen Weber, Joe Auchey, Jack Bingham, John Gantz, Matt London, Kevin Lunz, David Hirneisen

Casual Picnic Ride (D) Jun 18
A small group but very pleasant, casual ride on a beautiful Sunday morning. Riders: Barb Koppenhafer (leader), Alan Hurlbut, Judy Hurlbut, and Penny Kulp.

Vintage Velo Run (A) Jun 24
It was raining at the ride start time and we decided to cancel the ride with only three riders and forecasts of more rain. Then Scott shows up and the rain ceases so we forge ahead. The rain holds off and we average just under 18 mph on a very humid morning. Riders: Mark Buckwalter (leader), Scott Wagner and Ken Lessans.

Cain's Quest (B) Jun 24
Did you ever have one of those mornings, when you wake up and are getting ready for a ride and the sky looks like rain and you're not sure if you should ride or not? Then it starts to rain a little, and you decide not to ride. Then it stops raining. You driver over to the starting location where six riders who didn't wuss out, are waiting and wondering where your bike is. Well, I made the decision not to ride, (based on the forecast, visual observation, and my trick knee) just show up, give out cue sheets and go off and do my honey-do list. Well, it didn't rain and it didn't clear up and it didn't make me feel good that I bagged the ride and missed out on all the fun. Riders: Don Whitehead (non-ride leader), Randy Haluck, Steve Mazeski, John Mullineaux, Craig Shreiner, Damon Schlott, and Don Kulp.

Farmland Meander (C) Jun 24
Five hearty souls showed up and headed out in the rain-there's a thin line between a hobby and a mental illness. Riders: John Cardos (leader), Pearl DeLong (sweep), Jeff DeLong, Tim Good, Matt London and Dave Kessler.

Schwing Ride (D) Jun 24
Cancelled due to weather. Riders: Barb Koppenhafer (leader)

E-town to Where ever (& back) (C) Jun 24
25 mi (F @ 12 mph) on the Conewago and Lebanon Valley Rail Trails; 74 F, overcast, hazy to partly sunny & humid. The weather forecast was threatening; but, it turned out to be a good ride! At times the sun even came out and there was no rain after all; but no riders either. The Conewago and Lebanon Valley Rail Trails were actually is very good shape, despite the recent rains. Actually they were a little too good - no mud at all - some say … why go on the trail if you can't get a little muddy!? So, anyway, the leader decided to continue to go beyond Where Ever to Somewhere Else. Yes, the sign to Where Ever was out again. The rest of the rider agreed, and it ended up that Somewhere Else was at the end of the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail. This added ten miles to the ride, but it was okay. Then on the way back, the ride leader offered to treat all the riders to whatever they wanted at the Twin Kiss in Colebrook, but I declined and just wanted to keep pedaling; had a good pace going - averaging a solid 14 to 15 mph. Yes, it was advertised at 12 mph, but there were no objections and we were sticking together, so I kept it going. But I think we ended this ride at about the right time, because by the end the riders were getting just a little testy - arguing about the pace - too slow / too fast, that we're hungry and should have stopped, went too far, didn't go far enough, it's too flat, it's too hot & too humid. I don't think the fists were ready to fly just yet, but it was gettin' a little ugly. I guess it was a good thing we didn't have more riders to add to the mix. I was already a bit more than I could handle. Riders: Tom Barron (ride leader), Tom Barron (lone rider), and Tom Barron (sweep)

Back Run Ramble (Tandem) Jun 24
Intrepid cyclists were not thwarted by forecast of thunderstorms and flooding. This event was well-attended by all who came. We were an agreeable and cohesive group and extended the ride by an extra 10 miles without dissent. All riders stayed together for the entire ride. Riders: Steve & Gail Brainard (leaders), Mary Ann Linde (sweep), and Gil Linde.

Pedal to Preserve Long (A) Jun 25
Leader decided not to ride because of rain. Mike Damon and Bart wound up having nice, clear weather for the entire ride. Curtis Palmer (leader), Mike Lutz, Damon Schlott, and non-LBC member Bart Torre.

Chicken Barn Ride (B) Jun 25
41 mi (R @ 13 mph) 75 F, overcast, humid & light to moderate rain This ride was almost cancelled, but Craig showed up - braving the rain and completely soaked already on his ride over. So, he was going "weather" or not there was a ride. But, as luck would have it, the rain actually stopped. It remained overcast and looked like it could start up again at any time, but the two of us decided to venture out; give it a shot. Somehow in the confusion of deciding if we were going to ride and getting ready, I didn't realize until several miles into the ride that I had left my water bottles back in the van. This would later prove to be a rather bad thing; duh. So, anyway… we continued our ride, and in some spots the roads were starting to dry. And occasionally, there was a spot or two of blue off in the distant sky. Probably more wishful thinking than reality, but we both saw it. So, getting back to those water bottles… not a good idea to leave them filled, and well protected back in the van. Eventually it started taking it's toll. I was in need of refreshments and a nature call; and luckily there was a Sheetz ahead, unfortunately it was still a mile plus out. Made it, but slowed me down. Well moral of this story is … DO NOT forget your water bottles! Go back if you have to! In the end the ride was shortened due to rain starting again as we split to go our separate ways after this break at 30 miles. Although, the quick downpour actually felt good-for a little while. Then it was enough. Better luck next time. Riders: Tom Barron (ride leader) and Craig Shreiner

Another D-Lightful Ride (D) Jun 25
Three dedicated riders showed, knowing we would hit some rain. Well we made it to Stauffers at 11 average then the rain came. The harder it rained the faster we went! Joann shot out in the lead and then Dave showed us how to claim it. But we all finished together at 12 average. Riders: Jim Drumm (leader), JoAnn Harris, Chip Jordan and Dave Harris.

Meadow View (C) Jun 25
Rained out. Riders: Steven Holland (leader)

Mount Joy Twin Kiss (Ice Cream) Jun 28
After a couple days of heavy rain & flooding, I was so ready to ride bike. As I sat waiting, the dark clouds moved in & my watch read 6:28 PM. Boo Hoo, no one came out to ride with me, but wait moving in fast was Tim, then from the other direction came John & Celeste. Yea!, and we were off. Half way there on Newcomer Road, Gary passed us going the other way, he turned around & joined us. We stopped at the end of Newcomer and who should pass us and stop? Jeff & Pearl. They were on their way to Kreider's for ice cream. We all agreed to go for a longer ride so it was off to Kreider's for ice cream. All cars were left at home so it really didn't matter where we ended up, as we all had to ride home. A special THANK YOU to Jeff & Pearl for allowing us to tag along on their ice cream ride and for buying all of us ice cream. Riders: Judy Flowers (leader), Tim Good, John Peregoy, Celeste Neuhard, Gary Musser, Pearl & Jeff DeLong.
